Description

The City of Burlington provides the ability for citizens to report deceased animals.

There are 2 types of service for deceased animals:

  1. Pickup of deceased animals on Public Property (e.g. Roadways, Sidewalks, City owned Facilities). No charge for this service. Animal Services does not respond to calls on the major highways, please call MTO 1-866-673-4781.
  2. Pickup of deceased animals (excluding owned pets) on Private Property:
    •  if the Animal Control Officer must enter onto the private residence and retrieve/remove the carcass.  There is a fee for this service except for the following:
      • Pick up deceased deer/coyotes on private property has no cost.
      • Pick up domestic animals on private property (Example deceased cat on private property not owned by caller/property owner) has no cost.

      • Pick up waterfowl on private property currently at no charge due to Avian Flu.

      • If the resident is comfortable placing the carcass in a plastic bag – and placing at the end of their driveway, the Animal Services Officer will retrieve the bag from their property without cost. 

Note:

Small birds such as robins, grackles, pigeons etc can be double bagged and placed at the end of your driveway for pickup by a City staff member. 

Mice can be placed into the trash 

Goldfish can be placed into the green bin.

Cost and Methods of Payment

There is no cost for pickup of deceased animal on Public Property (e.g. Roadways, Sidewalks, City owned Facilities) or a carcass in a garbage bag and placing at the end of their driveway.  this service as per the above if the carcass is placed in a bag and at the end of the driveway.

Cost for removal on private property is $64.34 (includes taxes).

Accepted payments are Cash, Cheque, Credit or Debit.

How long does this take?

  • Animal Control Officers will attempt to resolve the issue within 24hrs of the call being taken in.

Do I have to be present for the pick up?

  • No, so long as the City can contact the customer if necessary.

 Why do I have to pay?

  • The City of Burlington charges a service fee for private residence calls.
  • Fees are not charged if the carcass is already bagged and left at the bottom of a driveway.

Is there other options?

  • You can call a wildlife removal company to assist with removal of a cadaver – we do not have any direct affiliation with any agencies we can provide as a reference.
